Reactive Metal Technology
Experience has proven that reactive metal (titanium, zirconium, and
tantalum) equipment fabricated in a clean room environment is superior to
equipment manufactured in ambient conditions. We have removed the
most prevalent sources of weld contamination, producing welds that are
pure silver in color, indicating a lack of contamination and oxidation. Welds
produced in this manner are more ductile and corrosion resistant, and will
hold up better to severe service for a longer duration than ordinary reactive metal welds.
We have constructed two completely enclosed world class clean rooms
with a total shop space of 20,000 sq. ft. (1860 sq. M). Each of these rooms
has access to our 200 ton capacity cranes. These rooms are state-of-the-
art with independent HVAC temperature controlled environments. Air is
filtered 6 to 8 times per hour, and positive pressure is maintained to keep
out contaminants. We have the ability to check for the presence of free iron
particulates for work requiring special atmospheric monitoring and employ
custom fabrication procedures to assure cleanliness and lack of
contamination in the fabricated product.
We have developed proprietary welding techniques for reactive metals which enable Oat to produce equipment that our customers
agree is the finest quality produced anywhere in the world. Combining robotic, semiautomatic, and manual welding processes
allows Oat to offer extremely competitive pricing and meet demanding delivery schedules.
The investment in facilities and equipment has enabled Oat to become an unquestioned leader in reactive metal fabrication. We
can process a large quantity of work simultaneously to keep lead times competitive. We have manufactured some of the largest
titanium and zirconium equipment ever produced, including columns and heat exchangers weighing in excess of 240,000 lbs.
